Smallville Creators to Salvage a Weiszless Mummy
After successfully showcasing the adventures of Clark Kent during his teenage years, Smallville creators, Miles Millar and Alfred Goughwill, will now try their hands on remaking Brendan Fraser?s mummy franchise.
The mummy franchise, which includes the 1999 film The Mummy and the 2001 The Mummy Returns, was originally directed and written by Stephen Sommers, and starred Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.
Despite the success and popularity of the mummy franchise, actress Rachel Weisz has decided not to join Millar and Gouhwill?s new project. Another missing figure is director Stephen Sommers, who will be replaced by Rob Cohen, director, writer and producer known for his work in XXX, The Fast and the Furious, The Witches of Eastwick, The Serpent and the Rainbow and The Running Man.
Despite the absence of the two, many are still positive about the outcome of the new movie, given that Millar and Goughwill are veterans when it comes to creatively reinventing classic novelty, just like their work on Smallville.
The said movie is scheduled to film in late summer, during Smallville?s down season. This means Smallville fans need not worry about the duo?s absence on the hit sci-fi series.
A unique feature of the rendition is the setting of the plot, which will take place in China. To add more intrigue and excitement, they added action star Jet Li to play the supernatural villain. Given this, it appears that the film would heavily consist of action-packed scenes, a very interesting feature viewers look forward to. Moreover, it seems that this movie would definitely live up its positive hype.
Fans of Millar and Goughwill will just have to be patient since the movie will hit the theaters in the summer of 2008. Meanwhile, fans can take delight in the dynamic duo?s current masterpiece, Smallville, which airs Thursdays at 8/7 C on the CW network.
